Over the summer of 1999, ROOF sponsored counsellors to go with the orphanage children to their summer camps and continue educational programmes in a natural setting - 7 highly qualified teachers were chosen from a group of 15, each of whom had designed and submitted his or her own summer programme proposal.

ROOF also organised an exchange between orphanages in Moscow and Pereslavl-Zaleskii (near Yaroslavl). The children toured historical sites, played, swam, hiked and had fun. All of this was had at minimal expense, as the children simply switched places and went to live in each other's orphanages. ROOF plans to encourage this type of exchange on a wider basis (and not only during summer vacations) because it is an extremely cost effective method of broadening the children's horizons quite rapidly, and has since become an annual fixture in ROOF's calendar.
